...our pet friendly lodge is the epitome of rustic luxury. It is surrounded by the vast expanse of the beautiful Nara forest and our lush plantations - making it an ideal getaway for those seeking adventure or just a relaxing holiday.
Book Your StayA rustic yet elegant home in the countryside — for our guests to experience Punjab's warm hospitality.
During the days of COVID, we decided to step away from the scurry of the city and venture into sustainable, transformative hospitality, creating a rustic yet elegant home in the countryside. Completed in 2022 as a four-bedroom retreat, Raunaq is inspired by the old Forest Rest Houses from the days of the Raj, specifically the Nara Forest Rest House just a few minutes away.
We farm without the use of chemical fertilizers. The wheat grown on our farm is ground for the rotis you eat and our farm-grown mustard is cold-pressed for cooking oil. When in season, our kinoos come straight from the orchard to your glass as fresh juice.
Raunaq runs almost entirely on solar power through both on-grid and off-grid systems. A full power-backup generator is also in place for those rainy days.
Our retriever, Sidney, loves being at Raunaq; away from the city, with open spaces and plenty of room to run around. We will ensure that your pet experiences the same.
Our indoor spaces have been thoughtfully curated to being cosy, and yet spacious. Rustic and yet luxurious. They include two en-suite bedrooms, two one-bedroom cottages, a lounge and dining area with wood-burning fire places in the lounge and cottages.
The outdoor spaces include our plantation of poplars, kinoos and crops, a verdant lawn and a swimming-pool area including a deck and bar, with stunning views of the plantation.
The best thing to do at Raunaq is to do nothing at all; relax and soak in the crisp fresh air amidst our lovely plantation. Or use it as a base to explore the Nara forest around it — from the pool deck and bonfire evenings at the property, to the dam, the dairy, and day trips further out.
We have a refreshing swimming pool at the property for our guests to have a rejuvenating dip, or just sit at the poolside deck & bar for their evening drink, with stunning plantation views.
Our guests could go for nature walks within the plantation that is secured by electric fencing. In season, plucking kinoos is a popular activity for children, adults and senior citizens alike, for some freshly squeezed juice.
The expansive lawns could be used for unwinding or playing games, just like the cosy indoor lounge, or to light a bonfire to warm up those chilly winter evenings.
Horse riding can be arranged with a handler who can give basic lessons on riding.
Raunaq is located in Hoshiarpur district's stunning Nara forest area.
Our guests can visit the Nara forest rest house, built in the British times and the Nara dam with its beautiful lake. It is all within 10 minutes of the property.
Treks in that region can be arranged by our staff with packed picnic meals on request.
An automated dairy farm with nearly 400 cows, from where we source all our milk products like milk, curd and paneer, is just a few minutes away and a must visit.
Four wheel driving on your SUV's through Nara forest's endless trails is also a very popular adventure sport around Raunaq.
Guests can visit the historic town of Hoshiarpur (about 20 minutes away) where they spend the day walking its bazaar's bustling lanes with its small hattis and strike a great bargain on things like Punjabi juttis, hand embroidered phulkari, ethnic wear and the lot.
Visit the Indian Forest Service's protected sites of Kukanet and Derian (about 50 minutes away) — where you could take your vehicles for over 20 km through a dense forest in a shallow river bed, in the dense shade of bamboo plantations; one of the most spectacular and un-discovered wild spots in Punjab. The forest rest houses at Thana Dam or Chohal Dam are great excursions for a meal or boating.
For religious pilgrimages, the revered temples of Chintpurni, Baglamukhi and Naina Devi along with the historic Gurudwaras of Anandpur Sahib, Bhabour Sahib and the Virasat-e-Khalsa museum can all be done as a day's excursion.
The Bhakra Dam and Pong Dam are easy to do as day excursions from Raunaq and are a beautiful drive away.
Our ingredients are sourced from our farm or the farms around. The meals are home-style and freshly prepared by our in-house chef. Please see our regular lunch, dinner and breakfast menus below, and speak to us if you have any food allergies, and need anything specific or specially prepared. Kinoo juice during the season is a real hit with our guests. We do not sell alcohol, but will provide mixers, if guests choose to bring their own.
The home was inviting and comfortable, and we slept soundly. Since we were there I can see they have expanded by adding a pool which looks lovely. I cannot wait to go back again…
A Truly Magical & Soulful Stay in Punjab — We travelled all the way from Surrey, Canada with my husband and kids, and this place turned out to be an absolute gem…
We really had a nice time at Raunaq. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. It was a perfect getaway for us with family specially our old mother...
Exactly the kind of quiet we were looking for. The rooms are beautiful and the food felt like home.
We came for one night and stayed for two. The pool deck in the evening is unforgettable.
Warm hosts, spotless rooms, and food that actually tastes home-cooked. Already planning our next visit.
